Derrick concentrates his practice on the areas of community development finance and tax credit transactions involving historic tax credits (HTC), new markets tax credits (NMTC), renewable energy investment tax credits (ITC) and other incentive programs. Derrick has significant experience representing investors, financial institutions, lenders and community development entities (CDEs) in the use of federal and state incentives in connection with various types of development and rehabilitation projects that bring positive impacts to their communities.

Derrick utilizes his experience, knowledge and skills to assist and advise clients throughout the deal closing process and the post-closing compliance period by spotting and addressing issues, negotiating with transaction parties to maximize the client’s position and managing the day-to-day aspects of the transaction.

Prior to joining KCD Legal Partners, Derrick practiced at a national law firm where he represented clients in connection with multiple aspects of community development finance transactions, including leading and assisting with the initial transaction through closing, addressing post-closing asset management issues and coordinating exit transactions.
